How is Blount’s disease treated?
Treatment varies for each person diagnosed with Blount’s disease and could differ based on age and severity of the bend. Treatment could include:
- Brace: Your provider will recommend your child wear a brace that extends from the thigh to their foot. Braces are most common among children younger than three years. Braces are usually worn at night for a year.
- Surgery: Surgery, like an osteotomy (bone cutting), occurs after age four. Surgery could include adding staples, pins or tension band plating or removing or adding a wedge of bone to the damaged tibia to straighten the leg.
