People with certain medical conditions are more likely to develop a carcinoid tumor:

• Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) type I, which causes tumors in the glands of your endocrine system.
• Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1).
• Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC).
• Von Hippel Lindau (VHL) disease.
