Symptoms of a brachial plexus injury vary depending on the type of injury and which nerve(s) were affected. You may also experience other symptoms at the same time if you have other injuries.
The most common symptoms of a brachial plexus injury in children and adults include:
- A limp arm.
- Paralysis in your arm or hand.
- Diminished muscle control in your arm, hand or wrist.
- A lack of feeling or sensation (numbness) in your arm or hand.
- Pain in your arm, hand or wrist.
Symptoms of a brachial plexus injury in newborns include:
- No movement in your newborn's upper or lower arm or hand.
- Absent Moro reflex (startle response) on the affected side.
- They hold their arm against their body with their arm extended (straight) at their elbow.
- Decreased grip on the affected side.
