Your doctor will visually and physically inspect you if anal growths or symptoms are present. There are two main ways that anal dysplasia is diagnosed in addition to a physical examination. They are:
- Anal Papanicolaou test (anal Pap test or smear), which is a test that involves swabbing the anus for cells that are examined under a microscope.
- Biopsy, which involves tissue removal, and a microscopic examination of the biopsy tissue by a pathologist.
