Types of stroke or cerebrovascular accident:

  • Cerebral stroke.  It is caused by the obstruction of blood flow in an artery (thrombosis, embolism), which causes a decrease in blood supply to that part of the brain. Approximately 75% of all strokes are cerebral infarcts. Its consequences in the brain are usually catastrophic, and the symptoms produced are very disabling.
  • Hemorrhage or stroke. Caused by a ruptured artery.

Ischemia can take several hours to develop and this time, called the  therapeutic window , is a key moment to avoid or minimize brain damage.
